- Fixed an issue that caused the VIOS Create Virtual Fibre
Channel adapter GUI task to fail with the error "REST000B
The URL presented to the Management Console REST Web
Services is not valid".
- Corrected the values shown in the Storage I/O usage column
on the Usage page of the Systems and Partitions tables in
the new GUI dashboard.
- Fixed an issue with PCM energy metric sample collection
for eBMC-based managed systems that caused SRC E3550046 to
be called home.
- Fixed an issue causing the interpolation line and shading
to be missing from Performance and Capacity Monitoring (PCM)
graphs for some intervals such as last month, when accessing
Performance and Capacity Monitoring GUI from old dashboard,
- Fixed an issue that can cause a shared processor pool name
to be changed after a server firmware update.
- Fixed an issue preventing a partition from being set as a
time reference partition on a managed system that does not
support Live Partition Mobility but does support time
reference.
Disabled unused HMC port 5023.
- Fixed a timing issue that caused SRC E3D46FFF to be called
home due to a call home failure that occurred because the
Electronic Service Agent was not fully activated.
- Fixed an issue that caused SRC E3D45070 to be reported and
called home during a Transmit Service Information operation
due to a specified Product Engineering file being rotated or
deleted during the operation.
- Fixed an issue causing firmware updates for Open Power
systems to always fail with the error "HSCF0276E Failure
during readiness check operation against target".
- Fixed an issue that causes the Update Access Key (UAK) to
be resent to an Enterprise BMC based managed system every
time the HMC performs a UAK check even though the UAK has
not expired.
- Fixed a rare timing issue on HMC boot that caused SRC
E3550046 to be called home.
- Fixed an issue preventing HMC-to-HMC communication on port
9920 when the HMCs are on different subnets.
- Fixed an issue where the HCNID associated with a
migratable SR-IOV adapter is changed every time a partition
profile with that migratable SR-IOV adapter is activated or
applied. With this fix, the same HCNID will be used
every time, preventing duplicate network bondings from being
created and preventing the creation of a new resource with a
new MAC address.
- Reduced the time the partition dump restart operation will
wait for a blocking operation to complete. Now the
dump restart operation will return a busy error if it must
wait more than one minute for a blocking operation to
complete.
- Fixed an issue that caused a Power Enterprise Pool 1.0
Mobile CoD pool processor or memory CoD code with a bad
sequence number to be ignored and no error to be reported
back to the user.
- Fixed an issue for a Power Enterprise Pool 1.0 with no
memory that causes the error "HSCL9119 The Mobile CoD
memory activation code for the Power enterprise pool was
not entered because a permanent to Mobile CoD memory
conversion code for a server could not be entered" to
be returned every time a pool create, update, or recover
operation is performed. Also fixed an issue for a
Power Enterprise Pool 1.0 with no processors that causes the
error "HSCL9118 The Mobile CoD processor activation code
for the Power enterprise pool was not entered because a
permanent to Mobile CoD processor9 conversion code for a
server could not be entered" to be returned every time
a pool create, update, or recover operation is performed.
- Improved the error message displayed by the installios
command when only the name of the directory on the HMC that
contains the ISO image to install is specified as the source
of the installation images (-d) instead of the entire path,
including the file name, of the ISO image.
- When an Enterprise BMC-based managed system is powered
off, its VMI IP address is no longer added to the list of
removed IP addresses used for DHCP auto-discovery.
Note that this change has no functional impact since VMI IP
addresses are not auto discovered via DHCP.
- Changed the error message that was received when
activating a partition with vNIC adapters when the SR-IOV
adapter logical port limit on the physical port has already
been reached. The original error message "HSCL2521
There was a failure in the management console repository"
has been replaced by an error message indicating the limit
has been reached.
- Fixed a rare issue causing notifications in the GUI
Notifications slide in window to show a blank Reference ID
and Source and a date of "Invalid Date, Invalid Date".
- Fixed an issue that always caused a Linux partition
running in the Power10 processor compatibility mode to fail
remote restart or disaster recovery validation on a POWER9
processor-based destination system.
- Fixed an issue that called home failure SRC (E3D46FFF) for
a problem that is closed or duplicated in the backend.
- Added the missing -t io option to the lslic help
text and man page.
Command Line Changes
- The following commands have been enhanced to support
Linux dynamic key secure boot: chsyscfg, lssyscfg,
and mksyscfg.
- The following commands have been enhanced to support the
new vTPM 2.0 encryption level Power10 version 2: chsyscfg,
lssyscfg, and mksyscfg. The original
vTPM 2.0 encryption level value has been deprecated and
renamed from Power10 to Power10v1.
The Power10 value will still be accepted by the mksyscfg
and chsyscfg commands. Support for the
Power10 value will be removed in a future release.
- The following commands have been enhanced to support
remote restart of partitions configured with virtual
persistent memory volumes: lsrrstartlpar and rrstartlpar.
- Added the upgvios command to upgrade a VIOS.
- The following commands have been enhanced to support RMC
communication using TLS over port 12601: chpsm and
lspsm.
- New options have been added to the chsysconn command
to configure IPv6 for the Virtualization Management
Interface (VMI) for an Enterprise BMC-based managed
system.
- The following chhmcusr -t default and lshmcusr
-t default command attributes have been deprecated
and renamed: max_webui_login_attempts has been
renamed to max_login_attempts, and webui_login_suspend_time
has been renamed to login_suspend_time. The
original attribute names will still be accepted by the chhmcusr
command and will still be output by the lshmcusr command
when the -F option is used. Support for the original
attribute names will be removed in a future release.
These attribute settings now apply to SSH and REST API
sessions in addition to GUI sessions.
- A new option has been added to the chhmc command
to configure the SSH timeout, which is the maximum amount
of time that an SSH session can remain idle or inactive
before it is closed. The SSH timeout setting has
been added to the lshmc -r command output.
- Added support for SSH keys to the cpfile command.
- Changed the getupgfiles command to always
require the –r option.
- Added the system name to the lsdump -h command
output.
- Deprecated the command chhmc -c pcmprocusage -s
modify --deductidle on/off since it no longer has
any impact. Also deprecated the lshmc –p command.
Both commands will be removed in a future release.
Performance & Scale
- With V10 R3 M1050, a single HMC can manage up to 48
systems & 2000 partitions across the systems being
managed by HMC with minimum requirements as below
- 16GB memory for 1 -500 partitions
- 32 GB memory for 500 -2000 partitions
- For maximum number of systems and partitions when HMC is
used in combination with CMC, PowerVC, VM HA/DR, please
refer to the corresponding product documentation. For
other configuration requirements for Virtual HMC
Appliance, please refer to - Installing
the HMC virtual appliance
Known issues and Limitations
- Dates, times, and numbers on the GUI Performance
dashboard are shown in the format based on the HMC
language instead of the browser language.
- The entire ENZ0 PCIe Gen4 I/O expansion drawer will be
powered off when an Exchange FRU or repair of the
Lightpipe Assembly is performed.
- When performing a partition migration validation
operation on the GUI, when the vNIC or SR-IOV mappings
are edited, those mappings may disappear from the GUI
when submitted for validation again.
- If the managed system has generated SRC B158BA2A, this
SRC does not show any description on the Serviceable
Events page.
Best Practices
- User sessions - The following best practices helps avoid
performance degradation gradually over a period of time due
to increased login sessions as well as security
vulnarabilities such as unauthorized access to the active
HMC sessions.
- It is a best practice to logoff from HMC UI and then
close the browser tab instead of directly closing the tab
- Set Idle session timeout for all the users and not leave
the timeout as '0' which leaves it as no timeout.

Notes for the Virtual Appliance for PowerVM :
- On POWER9 and Power10 servers, HMC Virtual Appliance for
PowerVM can run in Power8 and Power9 compatibility modes for
this release.
- The HMC Virtual Appliance for PowerVM does not provide
graphics adapter support for adapters assign to the
partition. Use a supported web browser to point to the HMC
for UI support.
- DLPAR operations such as memory and processor moves for
HMCs running in an LPAR are not supported.
- Inactive partition migration and Simplified Remote Restart
operations are supported.
- The virtual appliance for PowerVM requires a POWER8,
POWER9 or Power10 server that is enabled for little endian
support. Minimum System Firmware 860 recommended for Power8
servers
- You cannot manage the server that hosts the HMC virtual
appliance.
- You cannot manage the server that hosts another HMC
virtual appliance which is managing the server that hosts
this HMC virtual appliance.
For example, HMC virtual appliance A is running on server A
and HMC virtual appliance B is running on server B. HMC
virtual appliance A cannot manage server B and HMC virtual

General Virtual HMC notes
- Virtual HMC Appliance can be deployed in your existing
POWER virtualized infrastructure. Virtual HMC Appliance
supports install into PowerVM LPARs.
- Call home of serviceable events with a failing MTMS of the
HMC itself is disabled. Those serviceable events
should be manually reported to IBM software support.
- To see if you are running on a virtual HMC use the lshmc
-v command. If it displays a UVMID field, then you are
running in a virtual machine.
Example:
lshmc -v
"vpd=*FC ????????
*VC 20.0
*N2 Tue Nov 14 15:34:19 UTC 2023
*FC ????????
*DS Hardware Management Console

"
- When deploying a virtual HMC, if the mac address is not
specified, it will be generated by the hypervisor.
Network configuration on the HMC relies on the value of MAC
addresses. If you re-deploy a new virtual HMC and want to
restore critical console data previously taken on a virtual
HMC, ensure sure you are using the same MAC addresses.
- When using Activation Engine to setup NTP configuration,
you must specify the NTP version value.
